Welcome! Now For A Little History

Considering this is the very first post to go up at Up-And-Coming-Blogger, I figure it makes perfect sense to talk about why I decided to start this second blog.

When I first started dabbling in blogging just a few months ago I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to blog about; I just knew I wanted to blog and start my own community.  One of my thoughts was a blog for and about new bloggers.  But shortly there after I decided on “Motivate Thyself”.  So I started with that blog and quickly grew to love blogging, but even more, I fell in love with the amazing opportunities to connect with people all over the globe.

Last weekend was the Blog World Expo.  I heard a lot about it from some of my blogger buddies and was bummed I couldn’t be there.  But I was also re-inspired to write about being a new blogger and what I’d learned thus far.  So I went ahead and created a post called “10 Tips To Help New Bloggers Beat The Odds And Push Past Their Rookie Status”.  It was my most popular post to date and really opened the door to connect with my readers in a way that I hadn’t experienced before.  I’ve since received many emails and comments and link backs concerning this post.  I’m sure some of this was from the post itself, but I think that a lot was just from the fact that there are so many ‘young’ bloggers that are seeking help to put their best foot forward.

I then decided that I would turn this into a regular weekly series called “Up-And-Coming-Blogger”.  After two posts and a bunch of positive feedback I realized that this was a whole entity in and of itself that needed more focus that one post a week.  So I made the decision to start a completely separate blog to encompass this particular focus.  This way I can keep both ideas clean and uncompromised while being able to fully develop them both.  So I am not moving away from one blog to another, but instead I am just adding one to the mix.

So the “Up-And-Coming-Blogger” series on “Motivate Thyself” has been turned over to this site where it will continue as an entire website.

I will get more into some of my particular goals for this new site in later posts, but for now I just wanted to give a brief history and say, “Welcome to my new blog!”

By the way, if you are a regular subscriber to “Motivate Thyself” and want to get updates from this blog as well, you will need to subscribe to this one as it is on a separate feed.  So please subscribe now so you will stay up to date on all the future content.

And being that it is the launching of a new blog I would greatly appreciate a stumble if you don’t mind. There’s not much content to point out right now, but if you think it has potential for benefiting other bloggers, it wouldn’t hurt to let them know that.  Thanks in advance! :-)

I am looking forward to more new posts. I am real new to the blogging world. I have a lot of work to do on mine. While I have been paralyzed trying to get a good design/theme, I have been neglecting my content. It is still really young, but I like where you are coming from and I hope I can learn a lot. Design is definitely a problem for me. And I spend a lot of time worrying about it. I have actually even thought about spending the money to get someone to do that for me.

@ rebel: I have the same problem. I can spend hours upon hours forgetting the importance of content, only to be searching “the hottest new wordpress themes”. It’s a difficult problem, but I find if I turn off the internet, I can work productively.

@rebel: Daniel is right that the content needs to come first, but you are also right to be concerned about the look as well. As much as I want to say that it doesn’t matter, the fact is we are visual creatures. For many readers, if your blog doesn’t have a certain professional/unique look they will not even give it a second glance.

Now I know there are some that will say they don’t care about these things and that’s great, but there are many more who are. So having great content and a great look gives you the whole package.

I plan on laying out a lot of information that should really help new bloggers (as well as some seasoned ones) make their blogs really stand out.

@Daniel: It’s good to see you here and my other blog. Here we are, both having our first posts on our new blogs.

To the growth of our blogs… :-)

Hi Eric. This is a great idea! This reminds me of an idea I have. It’s different, but has similarities. I’m sure it will go over really well. Love your focus on helping others.

How to go about finding a Blogging Buddy: The Power Of Collaboration In Blogging Part 2

Finding that special blogging buddy (or buddies) isn’t anything you can place on Craig’s List. Like any relationship worth developing, only the proper combination of time and place will lead to conception. It is important to understand that part of the challenge lies in the patience it takes to wait for the right blogger to enter our lives. Of course, while being patient, it wouldn’t hurt to speed the process along by meeting a myriad of people.
